Ben Nevis 2002 10 YO Cask #334 White Port Matured, 56,4 %
The whisky of the day is a rather exclusive Ben Nevis expression. The Ben Nevis 2002 10 YO Cask #334 White Port Matured has been matured in a port pipe cask, yielding a total outturn of 710 bottles. It was distilled on 2002-12-09 and bottled on 2013-11-01, so it is almost 11 years old.
They still had a few bottles left in the distillery shop when I visited Ben Nevis about a month ago.
Nose (23/25): Lovely nose! This is port maturation with a very positive result - which is not always the case, in my humble opinion. Heavy and rich honey, honey cake, rum raisins, and vanilla. It is sweet, rich, and complex. On the nose it reminds me of an old port wine.
Taste (22/25): Rich and warm. There's raisins, apricots and other fruits. It has sort of a wine-y feel to it. Sweet and a bit fizzy.
Finish (20/25): Medium length, no further development, but nice fruity sweetness.
Balance (22/25): A very fine, youngish port cask whisky. I really like port matured whisky when it works - and in this case it worked out very well.
