The time has come for Distillerie Warenghem to present their products for the Norwegian whisky public. Three of their products will be made avialbel in norway on Friday march 6. One of them is the Armorik Double Maturation - Whisky Breton Single Malt. I have previously written a little about Warenghem here.

This is a French single malt then, still a relative rarity in the world of whisky. This particular expression is a no age statement release. It is a double maturation, where they use we use French oak casks for about 3 years first, then they move the whisky to sherry Oloroso casks for another 3 years of maturation. The exact maturation period in each cask type will vary somewhat from batch to batch, but the whisky itself is typically 6-7 years old. The French virgin oak used is sourced in Bretagne, the region the distillery is also located in.

The Armorik Double Maturation - Whisky Breton Single Malt is available at NOK 765 (2160801) - the price was previously 870. No whiskies from Warenghem are presently available to buy in Sweden.

Nose (21/25): Oak - in the form of sawdust and wet wood. Fruits - ripe apples, stewed apples, citrus, raisins and other dried fruits. Soft and elegant sherry notes. After a time in the glass I pick up notes of mustard seeds, nuts and caramel.

Taste (21/25): Oak, spices and caramel. Soft sherry notes with a peppery edge. Orange zest.

Finish (22/25): Very nice and rich sweetness on the finish; a mixture of caramel, nuts and honey - all with a mild orange taste. The mouth-feel is almost buttery, so creamy and oily.

Balance (21/25): Really like this one - especially the finish.
