Ardmore 2000 13 YO Svenska Eldvatten
Ardmore 2000 13 YO Svenska Eldvatten, 50,2 %
At last, a new single malt bottling from Svenska Eldvatten. They are back, and they have brought a peated Speyside single malt that packs a loveable punch. This is also the first bottling with the new logo and label from Svenska Eldvatten - more focus on simply Eldvatten (fire water) now. The new label is a lot easier to read in the dark corners of whisky bars, which is a big plus I think.
The whisky at hand is an Ardmore 2000 13 YO. It was distilled in May 2000 and bottled in May 2014, but it is a few weeks short of 14 YO. The total outturn was a mere 180 bottles, due to a leaky cask. The cask in question was a refill bourbon barrel (cask #SE030).
You can buy this whisky in Sweden at SEK 995 (item number 85998), and it will be available in Norway starting November 7 at NOK 1400.
Nose (23/25): Sweet, soft and creamy. There is peat here, sweet peat and wet ashes. I also detect dark chocolate, chocolate mousse and vanilla. After a while the sweetness grows a bit more heavy, and I find licorice and berries as well. A really nice nose, that keeps developing.
Taste (22/25): Chocolate sweet, wet ashes, light puffs of smoke, citrus and licorice. After a few sips it becomes more fruity. the mouth feel is creamy and oily.
Finish (21/25): More peat and ashes here. It is slightly metallic towards the end. A hint of herbs, as well as more chocolate mousse.
Balance (22/25): It keeps evolving and spinning new tales of aromas and fragrances with a nice chocolate peaty main theme. Nice one!
Score (88/100)
