Ardbeg 1991 15 YO Old Malt Cask
Ardbeg 1991 15 YO Old Malt Cask - Exclusive bottling for Bar Metro, Italy, 50,9 %
This is a rather special bottling of Ardbeg from Douglas Laing. It was distilled in March 1991, and bottled in September 2006, for the 40th anniversary of Bar Metro in Milano. Being form the Old Malt Cask series it's a single cask release, which yielded 241 bottles.
I was lucky enough to get to taste this at the Ardbeg Day tasting at The Tasting Room. The new, and quite promising, whisky bar in Bergen.
Nose (22/25): Pineapple, orange zest, pine needles. It's quite tropical. Also there's licorice, cinnamon and marzipan there.
Taste (23/25): It's quite smooth on the palate, creamy. The tropical notes carry over from the nose. There's some salty licorice and leather.
Finish (23/25): It turns slightly floral on the finish. The saltiness remains, and there's almonds.
Balance (23/25): A nice and summery Ardbeg. It's quite light. I'd love to sit in the shade at a beach somewhere and sip this.
