Today I can review a rather old whisky from the Knockdhu Distillery. You might already know that they sell their whisky under the brand name anCnoc to avoid confusion with Diageo owned Knockando Distillery.

The anCnoc 24 YO was first laucnched in 2015, and is the oldest whisky in their core range of products. Very little, in fact nothing, is made public with regards to cask use etc.

If you are so inclined you can secure a bottle of the anCnoc 24 YO in Sweden at SEK 1499 (8306301) and in the UK at around GBP 121.

Nose: Oak, citrus, caramel and vanilla. Rather heavy on the citrus at first, then it mellows out. Not often I find that in an old dram like this. With time also chocolate notes, cinnamon, nutmeg and nougat. Dry-ish in character. Toasted oak and leather.

Taste: Rich and full-bodied. Home made caramel pudding with a spicy edge. White pepper, ginger and dried cinnamon stick. The citrus is way more toned down now, but I do pick up some orange marmalade.

Finish: Long finish. More vanilla cream now, covering the caramel pudding. A sprinkling of orange zest. Rather nutty towards the end, also hints of marzipan. Soft and delightful. It really takes its time landing, this one. And I appreciate that.

Comments: Elegant and very tasty.
