AnCnoc 18 YO
AnCnoc 18 YO, 46 %
This is a rather new addition to the core range from Knockdhu Distillery. The AnCnoc 18 YO was launched late 2014.
Earlier this week I reviewed the AnCnoc 12 YO. The main difference between the 12 and the 18, except for the age - obviously, is that the 18 is bottled at 46 % ABV compared to 40 %. Where the 12 was matured in both ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, with a majority of bourbon, the 18 has an even distribution of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks.
You cannot buy the AnCnoc 18 YO in Norway currently, but you can get it in Sweden at SEK 849 (8598101), and in the UK at GBP 66. This whisky was actually launched in Sweden on October 1, 2015.
Nose (22/25): Richer and more fruity than the 12 YO. A bit malty in character, with hints of oakiness. Slightly spicy, and with a gentle sweetness of vanilla and milk chocolate. Give it time and you might also pick up notes of honey and oranges.
Taste (22/25): Nutty! ...and fruity. Vanilla and dried fruits (so, yeah - both the bourbon casks and the sherry casks have had a say here). Soft and pleasing mouthfeel.
Finish (21/25): Still nutty and rich. A bit sugary in the sweetness now. The mouthfeel turns slightly fizzy - that's always fun. Medium to long finish.
Balance (22/25): A very nice dram. I am not quite sure why I have not spent time with AnCnoc before.
Score (87/100)
