Amrut Rye
Amrut Rye, 5 YO, 50 %
The Amrut Rye is the first ever release of an Indian single malt rye. This is a limited edition of 1000 bottles, released in 2016.
European rye was used to produce the Amrut Rye, and it has been matured for five years in American oak casks.
The Amrut Rye will be released for sale in Norway on May 5, 2017, at NOK 1935 (7410901). You can buy this whisky now in Sweden at SEK 1698 (8554501), and online in the UK at around GBP 160.
Nose: Unusually soft and laid back for an Amrut, which I often find to be bigger and bolder than this off the bat. The rye is very much noticeable with the soft spiciness (mainly peppers, nutmeg and cinnamon stick) and hints of leather, herbs and floral notes. Fresh baked bread and something tropical.
Taste: Medium body and soft mouthfeel. Caramel pudding, pepper, almonds and again hints of baked bread.
Finish: Medium long finish. Honey with green notes. Peppery with a touch of dry ashes. Almost grainy mouthfeel now.
Comments: Now this is fun. Amrut have made a few Scotland-India cross-overs before, but this is more a US-India cross-over. I really enjoyed it.
