Aberlour 18 YO

The Aberlour 18 YO is being relaunched in Norway on Friday next week. I took this as an opportunity to do a review. This core range product from Aberlour was first launched in 2008, and was originally only available in the French market. It has been matured in sherry casks, so no big surprise there.

The Aberlour 18 YO will start selling in Norway at NOK 845 on November 2 (10454402). It was available here previously as well, and then at the much higher price of NOK 1165.

** UPDATE: The lower price is due to a shift from 70 cl to 50 cl bottles.

Nose: Soft sherry notes and red berries. This is not a sherry bomb like the Aberlour A'bunadh. Mild notes of vanilla and butterscotch as well.

Taste: Medium body and sweetness. Dried fruits, coffee and dark chocolate. Soft oakiness, with hints of polish. Ripe apples on later sips.

Finish: Medium long finish. Drier on the finish, actually quite dry. More chocolate and coffee. Mild oakiness throughout.

Comments: A good dram, but I would have liked a bit more oomph. I'm probably spoiled by having too many drams of various batches of the A'bunadh.
