A whisky game show?!
Everyone is screaming for your attention. Everyone is making a grab for you money. Everyone wants your time. Everyone wants you! Well, they can’t have all that, can they? But it will not stop them from trying, and on rare occasions you don’t really want them to stop trying either. I am talking about whisky, of course.
There is so much going on all the time, with new distilleries, new releases, new festivals, new tastings etc. How do you know what to spend your precious time and hard earned money on? Dr. Jekyll’s Pub in Oslo might very well have stumbled upon a recipe for success with the Whisky Game Show.
On October 12 last year they held the very first Whisky Game Show. For some time before that they have had what they call Whisky Talks on social media, a fun and educational series of short video clips focusing on - you guessed it - whisky. The primary hosts of the Whisky Talks are Callum and Renato, and they are also the game show hosts.
The game show itself was setup as a whisky tasting and in between the whiskies we did numerous rounds of Kahoot. You could participate as a team or as an individual.
The line-up of whiskies was great:
Cragganmore Destillers Edition 12yo 2005-2017, 40%
Teaninich Flora & Fauna 10yo, 43%
Dailuanie Flora & Fauna 16yo, 43%
Auchroisk Flora & Fauna 10yo, 43%
Cameron Bridge 26yo Special Release 2022, 56,2%
Callum and Renato had worked hard on the series of questions, and it was really great fun all the way. The game hosts did have some assistance along the way by a bizarre (and sweaty) unicorn that was intending (or pretending) to give clues. Sorry for not having any pictures of this particular part of the gig.
I did participate in the game show as a contestant, on a fab team. We were more or less in the lead all evening. That is, up until the final round. The theme of the rounds up until then had been more or less whisky and/or Scotland related. For the final round though, we were to successfully identify wether certain quotes were from Taylor Swift or Robert Burns. Now in theory that sounds like it should be fairly easy, but it turns out that Taylor is an older soul than I imagined, or good old Robert was ahead of his time. I should maybe also add that I have hardly heard a single Taylor Swift song, ever, at least intentionally.
In conclusion it was a great evening, lots of fun, lots of great prizes along the way and tons of friendly competition.
A round two of the Whisky Game Show is scheduled for March 24!
